Throttle overhaul

Hi,

I was wondering if there is an article on this in the forum. Mine on my 85 K100 seems heavy and I get pins and needles in my thumb after around 30 mins. Also the throttle stays in whatever position I put it when I take my hand off.

Have you had the bike a while?
By chance is there a throttle lock screw on the perch? or possibly a throttle lock(throttle meister or similar) on the end of the bar where the bar end weight would normally be.

sticky throttle not good.  I find my K1100 has light throttle meaning that it does not take much force to twist the grip.  Could be a gummed up or rusted throttle cable.  Give it some wd40.  If that works look into a longer term solution.

Ah, I would advise no to the wd40 unless you want the cable to totally seize up. Any type of lubricant will cause the cable interior lining to swell.
Check for any binding at the butterfly shaft, possibly the tps switch causing issues.

I agree with the "no lubricant" comment. These cables are teflon coated. When I first got my bike I cleaned out the whole chain/ gear mechanism at the grip. It will take some light grease but my suggestion would to not go crazy gumming up the works with really heavy stuff or too much of anything. If that doesn't go then maybe replace the throttle cable or clean/ lubricate further down the line.

On my 75 I had to remove the throttle tube and grip and clean up the ruster bar.

+1.  LOTS or crud built up between the twist tube and handlebar.  Made a world of difference just cleaning that.
