Ohlins shock service?

I have a 1990 K75RT with an Ohlins rear shock (pics attached).  This was installed by the PO and I have no idea what model it is.  The only discernible marking I can find is "316" on the bottom which, I believe, is the length(?).  In any case, the rear felt kinda weird today (squishy or something) and sure enough - the shock is leaking.  Can anyone tell me about getting these serviced?  My local service center doesn't do Ohlins and after some searching online it seems like it might be common practice to remove the shock and send it directly to Ohlins - is that right?

I have the same shock, inherited from a high miles K75 I just bought. Have no idea how to adjust it either...but sure beats the crappy Progressive 412 that was on my red brick before.

I see Ohlins has shocks that are designated as ABS and non-ABS. Does anyone know what the difference is functionally?

Ohlins is the Rolls-Royce of BMW aftermarket shocks, and priced accordingly. The K75/K100 unit is fully adjustable, rebuildable and the quality is unmatched. Here is a good explanation of the Ohlins Shock Code.
BMW K75 with ABS/ K100 8vRS, RT, LT: BM827/46HRCS (Manual)
BMW K75 no ABS: BM137/46PRCS (Type 46P) (Manual)
BMW K75 no ABS: BM441/46PRC (Type 46P) (Manual)
The difference between the ABS and non-ABS appears to be that the rebound adjustment is remote on the ABS bikes due to clearance issues, and part of the shock body on non-ABS bikes.

So mine is the ABS version that I installed on a non-ABS K75.

I would venture to guess that the abs/non-abs would be very similar to ABS1 verses ABS2. You need extra clearance for the ABS1 assy that isn't there with a non-abs bike as well as an ABS2 bike that has the pump assy mounted under the seat.

Excellent information - thanks!  Unfortunately the links to the manuals are no longer good.  I guess those models have been superseded, but I don't have ABS so that gives me a better idea.  If their model numbers follow what is on their site currently (http://www.ohlinsusa.com/motorcycle-products), then I believe I have the 46PRC since S seems to indicate a hose attached to the preload adjuster.

So I guess I just mail this sucker in and wait for the bill?  Anyone have any experience with this?  Is a specialty shop better/worse than dealing directly with Ohlins?

I just used this company to rebuild the Ohlins shocks on my R1100RT: http://www.motocd.com/mc/ and they did a good job.

On East Coast call Klaus at http://www.epmperf.com. He doesn't sell Ohlins but he knows his stuff and can probably service anything...I need to give him a call myself.

I forgot to follow up with my results, so I will now for historical reference:

I ended up using KFG Racing (was GP Suspension) in Auburn, WA (http://www.kfgracing.com/).  They did a great job and were a pleasure to deal with.  The service cost $260 and was well worth it.
