Top speed
« on: April 14, 2015, 11:24:16 AM »
What's the fastest you've gone on a K? On a fairly steep, long downhill I got up to 117 mph or so (speedo has been corrected to within 1 mph at 80 mph). Fairing along with side and top cases probably didn't help

a few weeks ago I was just over 125mph, so really some where around 115mph.  The 1100 had plenty left to give.  The idea of going fast on a motorcycle sounds fun and easy, but I find in reality once I am over 110mph wind force and noise is very unpleasant.

I have seen the needle just right of the mileage on my K75S on an uncalibrated speedo, so probably all the ones.

About 110 a couple times following speed demons on the interstate to make time. Not fun -- where's the enjoyment there?

A little off topic, over on the Ural forum we brag about getting our rigs up to 75mph.  That's a whole lot more terrifying than the couple times I got my K75s up to an indicated 110.

That's a whole lot more terrifying ...
I had the 'twingle's' needle bouncing 85-90, so about 80 mph, going up the Don Valley Parkway a few years ago. With a 3% mix it did a pretty good job as a 'skitter fogging machine. Shook a lot ...

Does a Ural go true 75mph or is that indicated?  Either way that sounds kind of scary.

The new FI's are said to do 70+ mph.  Mine was going downhill, with a tailwind, and the speedo bouncing between 70-80.

My mom and dad talked about doing 95 mph on airheads in the '70s...the Russians screwed something up if a Ural can't get up to 75

K100RS 16v with Harman chip between  140-145 on(uncalibrated) speedo, seemed like a little more to come from bike but ran out of road before bike stopped gaining speed.Fast enough for my needs(and ability!).

1993 K1100RS Mr Garmin says 143 indicated. Fast enough.

On my 1981 R100RS,  It's double plugged with electronic ignition.  It also has that 85 MPH speedo. But the quartz clock is spot on.

Coming back from Raid city SD one time clicking off mile markers at 28 seconds. Just about 750 shy of red line. Ran hard like that for almost an hour.
I'd rather be riding.

Yeah, but it's loosely copied off a 1930s R71, and it's dragging a sidecar. 800 lbs and 40 hp. The 2 wheeled Urals pull 90 easily enough.

I've had my K75 over 100 indicated a few times but only for extremely short distances, such as a quarter mile..too risky..
Had a R1100RT for awhile and it would jump to 110 indicated like nothing and had much more to go but what's to prove anyway?
I do love speed and always have.

Once I rebuilt my 85 into an RT, it became really smooth at 100, like glass smooth, kinda scary, like I was floating!!  My R1200RT doesn't have atop end that I know of!!  Haahaa

Around 135 mph(corrected). One of the reasons I got the 91 4v was to slow myself down......but think I am soon going to pick up another 4v 100 or 1100 and swap in a 1200 motor with 2.52 rear. :yes

Had an opportunity to go full throttle for an extended period in eastern Washington yesterday and the fastest I could maintain on a level straightaway on the east side of Banks Lake in eastern WA was 105mph on the GPS.

That's with about 75 pounds of stuff in tragkorbs and the top case.

I'll be the square guy and admit to going just over 80mph on Heinzy....wasn't scared, wasn't worried....just didn't need to go faster. I don't really care to know what she's got in her and there's either plenty of traffic or plenty of cops around my area....then there's the wildlife option to threaten you! Given the inaccuracy of the BMW speedo (ironically enough...German precision and all that!) it was probably closer to 75...what the heck... I got there!

Have fun, y'all!

My Ural is one of the fuel injected versions, and it's done an indicated 73, level road, with passenger. Did not red-line, felt there was a little more, but the front tire seemed a little light, so I backed off. Thoughts of blowing that airhead make me want to not over stress the motor, so I usually don't exceed 55. On the K75S I've run 120 without bags. I suspect TimTylers aero with big bags would definitely result in a slower number.

I hit 200kph (GPS reading, Brick was telling me 215kph) on the Autobahn last November with my four valve RS.  That comes out to about 124mph.  Wasn't that fun, really windy, pretty nerve-wracking, and I slowed down as soon as I saw 200 out of the corner of my eye.
