Swapping rear disc between final drives

I need to move the ABS disc from one FD to another. I know getting the discs of front wheels is a bear but I seem to remember that they come off off the rear wheel pretty easily. Can someone tell me whether an impact wrench is recommended here and what kind of loctite is on there or whether heat is required to get it off? I only see two countersunk hex shallow-socket screws on there.

Any help appreciated -- never done this before.

I had to hit those flat head screws with MAPP gas to get the damn red Loctite to let go.  I don't really understand the Loctite there.  The wheel bolts seem to be doing the job of holding the disc in place when everything is put together.  Those screws just keep the disc from falling off when the wheel is off the bike.

Otherwise not a bad job.

Did you make some kind of jig for it on the bench or just leave it connected to the swingarm? That can't be fun if it's just hanging there on the swingarm...

As I recall, I did it with the final drive on the bench.  I was pulling the disc to change the drive shaft oil seal.  I don't think it would be that much harder to get the screws out on the swingarm.  Locking the rear brake might actually make loosening the screws easier. 

Re, the torch.  Only took 10-15 seconds to loosen things up.

Do it with the FD attached to the swingarm. It's not hard, just be firm.

+1 I just put a stack of 2x8's under the final drive when I have to take the wheel off and mess with things back there.

Yes -- whenever you take off the rear shock, do not allow the swingarm to drop freely, and be sure it's supported. That protects the rubber boot that protects the front end of the drive shaft.

I have a "T" made of 2x4 for the purpose.
