22Liter rear Box
« on: September 09, 2013, 09:17:42 PM »
I bought a 22 liter rear box. It came with the mounting plate and the screw plug. I installed it but its very lose ( rattles). It must be missing some rubber spacer or bumper. Can someone tell me what I'm missing or how can I secure this so it's useable.

Not knowing the year and model I'm at a loss to look it up but if you go here:
http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/PartsFiche.aspx you should be able to drill down to all the mounting and case parts and see if they are there.

Hope that helps.

It should fit snug to the stock rack, BUT!! Mine was just on there too, not loose, but not tight. If ya pushed on it, you could slide it and wiggle it.
 I did not like that.
Underneath you can see exactly where the bottom of the box sits on the rack. I added strips of 1/8" firm rubber, like inner tube material, not foam.
This made it fit VERY firmly in place.
I like it on my RS for trips, but take it off around town.
I'd rather be riding.

I hate rattles also.
I had some foam tape used to seal camper tops to truck beds. I lined the bottom of the mounting plate (see pic #1) and the bottom where the Top case sits on the plate (see pic #2) then added a rubber (yellow) washer to the lock down post. It now locks down tight as a drum & no more case rattle.

It was done on the cheep with what I had on hand at the time. The other suggestions may be a better fit than this one.
