help identify this part

Hi All,

   New to the forum.  Been getting great advice from BMWMOA, including one that suggests I sign up here.  I'm working on a new-to-me 1985 K100RS and have parts everywhere in the garage.  This morning, I saw this:

and can't remember where it came from, or if it is even from the K100.  Does anyone recognize this?  It's about the diamter  of the drive shaft.  Steel.  Looks to be spring rolled and elastic.  I can't find it in the Microfiche either.  Thanks all.

That looks familiar.  It may be part of the rubber seal on the top of the slider on the fork tube.  Probably left over from a fork rebuild. That one is trashed !

I hate having parts I don't recognize.....     I just hope it wasn't a part out of the rear main seal I'm working on, or the gear box that I dropped off to the dealer to gets the seals replaced.  Final drive is a definite maybe, but I didn't take anything out other than removing it from the swing arm.  The drive shaft, but I see the circlip inside the rubber boot......

I can't think of anywhere else.

looks to be a seal stiffener to me. such as the one shown here. (random image from google search)

I cant remember of the swing arm boot has one on the trans side, i do know the swingarm side is a clip though.

How about "pony tail band" or "pony tail holder"? Or maybe a Scrunchie, but those have a bunch of lace and stuff on them. You don't have lace on yours, do you? :neener:
