K75s 1987 Injectors cleaning/upgrading
« on: March 28, 2013, 10:58:03 AM »
Hi,

My beloved K75S has been standing for approx 4 months since the Alternator Dog broke in Dec 2012

I have it all up and running now (new oil/air/fuel filters & oil & anti freeze not to mention the alternator dog/ rubbers and new seals all round!!)

I used to use some redex or some other injection cleaner but I'm not sure if it made any difference before the alternator dog caused the problem.

After finally fixing her yesterday, I noticed that She's running very rough. A quick bast on the motorway, seems to have cleared most if not all of the blockage...will fine tune her over the Easter break

My questions :-

1) Can the injectors be cleaned or do they have to be replaced after a certain time/mileage?
2) Is there a better injector than the ones fitted as standard.. can anyone recommend an alternative
3) Has anyone used Terra clean to clean/ de carb their bike engine? or Mystery Oil?

Its soo good to be back riding my beemer....the Honda CB250 was ok as a winter hack & saved my beloved from the winter salts but it didnt make me smile like the K75S :).

Thanks for you help in advance.

Ben

My advice: Mr. Injector.

One-day turnaround, inexpensive, and your injectors will be like new.

Above is a link to Osidetigers store, as well as the k75 Injectors they re-manufacture. I personally installed a set of 4 Into my K100RS as one of the first "upgrades" to my K last year when I got the bike. TBH its worth just buying these than sending the old ones in to be cleaned. these Provide Better torque and they better anodize the gas entering the combustion chamber. You get more bang, for the same buck, with no catch! Duck has also tried them out after I posted the original ride report with them. they are also a lot prettier than those ugly plastic OEM ones  :2thumbup:

I notice you're in the UK, so it will be faster, and perhaps easier and cheaper, to find a local shop to clean the injectors. In the U.S., some mechanics have the equipment to do this, or there may be a local service like our Mr. Injector.  I've just sent mine off to him, at 106,000 miles, for probably their first cleaning. Looking forward to the results.

Otherwise, I like Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner a couple of times a year. Your local brands may vary.

No opinion on Marvel Mystery Oil or other cleaners.

Edit: I see you did change your fuel filter, good.

I've just ordered a set for my '88 K75S. Predicted to be here Friday and I will install this weekend if indeed they are. I agree with you: reasonable enough to order these as opposed to sending the currently installed ones out for cleaning, which I will do anyway and keep them on hand, but with no downtime other than switching them out.

Did you seen any change in MPG with these?

I installed these in my K75S last week. I've only been through one tank of gas, no difference so far - but time will tell.

I also synced the throttle bodies, first time I've done it on this bike (owned it for 7 months).

The bike seems smoother, but I don't know if it is the injectors or the TB sync.

Coincidentally enough, that is my plan as well, to also sync the TBs, using a homemade contraption such as all over YouTube. I thought I would do the TB sync first and put on a few miles before installing the injectors to try and gauge the effectiveness of each improvement. Of course, this bike is new to me and I am just attempting to improve some slight roughness at idle which is producing a knock. At least that is what I a hoping it is.

Check with your local Diesel specialist. Many clean injectors or can direct you to a reasonably close shop that can. I have a shop up the road service mine for my Toyota (gas engine) truck when I rebuilt the engine and they had them back in my hands in 24 hours with new seals and pintle covers. $20 each US.

My bike has been sitting all winter since october because of me being inbetween jobs and having no read tire. and now I have 3K worth of parts to work into her and catch up. beforehand, when I put the injectors in, I didn't see much of a difference at all in MPG, but the bike had a little more torque and it was a little smoother.

So Ben,

What did you find in the UK to upgrade your injectors. I've been searching for the perfect injector replacement in the UK and I haven't come across an answer yet.

So how are the remanu'd injectors treating you guys with the 75's? I finally got out on my bike after all the work I did. the injectors along with the brand new sparkplugs and wires surely helped with combustion. lots of yeehas. how about you guys?
