Are you thinking just general fields (i.e. from a magnet) or something more like an EMP?

I may be wrong, but you should be able to use a sheet of lead to cover the housing to shield it from a strong magnetic field.
You may want to test that before doing it though.

The biggest speakers you can fit in a K1100LT are 4".  Those don't provide a whole lot of bass.

A buddy of mine, way back in his "I'm gonna build the fastest Camaro on the planet." days, had something installed under his seats called Bass Shakers that you mount under the seats to deliver bass through the seat.  Kind of the grandpappy of subwoofers.  He had them hanging around in his garage and gave them to me.  I'm toying with the  idea of taking the subwoofer output of my head unit, running it through a small amp and installing a Bass Shaker on the seat under the rider on my K1100LT.

Sounds like a plan to me.
The site said that it should be mounted to the seat.
I have been looking at options on upgrading the sound also.

Let us know how it goes...

The other idea I've toyed with is wearing a gaming vest that does something similar - but that's just more gear to have to put on and getting wired up every time I get on my trusty Pine Green steed.

I can't speak for interference problems with any expertise but any shielding material will have to be ferrous itself, e.g. a sheet steel box/covering for the Motronic unit. Lead is good for radiation insulation but that's all it's really going to stop. It's all about redirecting the magnetic flux around what you're shielding, can't just block magnetism.

Speculation: With the digital electronics in the unit I don't suppose any permanent damage would occur from a test fitting and while there is a changing magnetic flux when the speaker is operated I don't think it would be enough to affect anything. Enlighten us with results, Duck!

I'm having a Russell Day Long seat made in late January using the shallower K75 seat pan.  I called them yesterday to discuss how much I could mutilate the seat foam (without incurring extra charges) in order to install some capture nuts in the seat pan ahead of time for mounting it directly to the seat so I've figured out the mounting part I think and will work on that in early January before shipping them the seat.

I would wager there is some level of EMF protection on the unit. Plus the fact that it's a solid state magnet you should be safe.
If you want extra protection just in case you could build a Faraday cage around the unit.
