Dash pad interchange
« on: December 03, 2012, 03:48:15 AM »
Does anyone know if the later K100RS/K1100RS dash pad will fit on my old K100RS with the early style pad?  It looks like it will bolt right on, but I wonder if it gets in the way of the straight pull throttle cable on my oldie.  New style pictured below, it looks clean.

Pardon me, I'm just running out of stuff to buy for my bike.  I can't bear to have a bike that's "done".

One problem would be the ignition switch, which is mounted in the crash pad on 2V models.
On 4V`s it`s mounted in the triple thee, the center part of the crash pad is also lower.

First you must find a way to mount the ig.sw., then I don`t think it is enough clearance between
the crash pad and the triple thee.

4V`s also got a wider handlebar, some "adjustements" would be needed to the crash pad width.

Thanks Inge, good points.  I have no K1100 to refer to.  I have seen a few 2V bikes like mine, same year even, with a different bar pad that is kind of like the 1100 pad, but more rounded.  In fact there's one like that at the local dealer.  I haven't seen that third pad on the fiche anywhere though.  I think I'll go take a look at that bike and see how things fit together.

Another option is the "square" dash pad. That will work with your ignition switch, gives you another switch slot and there's a version that accommodates a Powerlet socket.  That's what I have on my K75.

Duck,

I just have to ask, what is the orange switch on your dash pad?

Its for the juicer in the tail cowl. :neener:

Actually its a three-way switch.  The down position ties my fork-mounted acid orange CATZ XLOs to the low beam (hence the orange insert) and the up position ties my diving lights to the high beam.  I have a similar orange switch on all of my bikes. :bmwsmile

If you have ABS, it must be a very small juicer.   In the right area of the US, you can trade the juicer for a still:)

Does the switch have a light in it?
