Leaky rear shock - Will a K100 shock fit a K75?
« on: March 06, 2012, 02:45:07 PM »
On close inspection of my rear shock, I noticed a slight bit of oil on the plunger, and a bit of gunk accumulated at where the shock body travel stops on the plunger. (It's installed upside down)

I'm guessing the shock is toast at this point? Any recommendations for replacements? Or can it be rebuilt? (or did I just start an oil discussion?)

Thanks,
Awfers

My (original) shock stared leaking a while back. I replaced it with a RAM shock, and I'm quite pleased with that choice. http://www.realmengineering.com/page15.html

+10 on that. I just installed one on the K100 and I am really happy with it.

If you buy a shock from Realm then make sure that you have it sprung properly.  Their default is to spring them for 2-up fully loaded riding.  I got one for my K75 (which I usually ride 1-up at 165# with little or nothing else) and it was WAY too stiff.  I got another spring from them with the right spring rate and it works MUCH better.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Thanks all.. Off to Ebay to find a cheap used one.

Will a shock off a later k100 work? Local moto wrecking yard has a couple...

Thanks,
Mark

The shock on the later 16v models is definitely longer than the earlier ones by about 25 mm.
