Continental Conti-Go! Recall
« on: June 23, 2024, 10:24:14 AM »
Not sure if any motobrickers have these tires but it's good info to pass around.  I did post this on the MOA and Airheads FB page as well.
And now I hear Cooper Tire Europe has  closed their Avon Melksham tyre factory after 112 years of operation.  Glad I got some of the last RoadRiders for my airheads.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I may be late to the party on this one but I recently found out the ContiGo! tires on my airhead were subject to a recall.
These tires were not my first choice at the time but my 1991 R100RT had a flat consisting of a nearly 1” slit in the rear tire.  Fortunately my Stop & Go tire repair kit and CyclePump got me home after using three plugs to seal the puncture.

At the time I had the MOA tire replacement program and could not find an Avon RoadRider in my size available so I bought a ContiGo! set.  It was not until I was searching for a replacement rear Conti that the subject of a recall came up.  The tires were purchased from BikeBandit which is now defunct so there was no there was no letter to inform me of this.

The whole process with Continental took almost two months from initial contact but the reimbursement for a new set of Avons was generous.

So check out the NHTSA recall # 22T006000
and call Continental if you are affected -> 888.799.2168

Sure thing.
If you or anyone else has questions regarding what is needed for this recall just ask.

According to the British site Classic Bike Hub the tyre plant closed down in December.

I sent them an email earlier and they linked me to a page with blanks for my personal info and the DOT data from the tires. Looks like my rear tire is fine but the front falls within the affected production dates (based on a document I found online).

I suggest you list both tires and let them decide which are subject to the recall.  Originally it looked like only my rear was listed but the recall coordinator assured me my front one was as well.

To get to the point of any recall money you will have to purchase new replacement tires; submit the required receipt (I had to call Motosport.com to get one) and then they will send UPS to your place to get the recalled tires.  When the returned tires are evaluated you will be contacted with a document showing the reimbursement which you digitally sign and it is then submitted to accounting.  It took about three weeks for the check.

I mount and balance my own tires and it looks like they took into account the labor.  As mentioned the amount was more than I expected.

They are reimbursing for a front tire but not the rear, which falls in line with what I expected. The person that returned my email said that $65 would be added for mounting and balancing (I do my own also). I can't seem to find a front ContiGo! in the correct size anywhere in the U.S. so may be buying a pair anyway if I want to keep matching tires.

Good, its worth it to have them check to see if the tires are recalled.  I may have misread the date code on mine.
There is no reason to stick with the ContiGo! if you don't want to.  Sounds like you will be buying a pair so look around, MotoSport.com did well for me.

Quoting meself...I received an email yesterday that said I'd need to provide an invoice  for installation before they will pay on that since I ordered new tires on the 'net. Seems like BS to me but I can likely come up with an invoice.

Hmmm....
I did not have to submit an invoice for the mounting and balancing, but like you, it would not be hard to make one.  Did you tell them that you are a mechanic and do your own?
