Ignition switch removal
« on: March 24, 2021, 12:25:48 PM »
How do I go about removing the ignition switch unit (where the key goes) from its rubbery "dashboard" on my K75C? I can't seem to find any angle of attack...

Pry up the round plate with the switch positions printed on it.  It has three fingers that slide into slots on the ignition switch assembly behind it.

You will then see two square holes at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions on the switch.  Put a small flat blade screwdriver in each one and lever it so the tip is pushing in toward the center of the switch.  This will release the two tangs that are holding the switch in position.  If you have them disengaged, you can press on the top where the key goes in to push the switch out of the dash pad.

The first picture here shows what you're dealing with:

I owe Don Eilenberger a beer.....a BIG one. Resurrected a 93’ K 75S this winter that has been sitting for 12 years. All of the normal culprits had been addressed, fuel, fluids, brakes, tires etc.  After putting about 400 miles on it I started seeing a faint battery light, then it would flash occasionally. After doing some reading and running over the charging system with a voltmeter, I suspected a battery or ignition switch. As preventative maintenance I stuck in a new battery, no dice. Took Don’s  advice and took apart and cleaned the ignition switch....... Miracles do happen! It worked! Thank you Don, I owe you a beer
