odometer set screw gap?

Would you please help me with the gap for the set screw that presses up against the shaft that holds the odometer gears? It's the white nylon screw that touches up against the the steel shaft with the odometer's gears. In the attached picture there is a red circle around the area.

In my last adventure going in this deep, I didn't pay attention to the gap. When my odometer hit 61,999 miles, it got stuck and would not roll over. This also kept the trip meter from functioning.

Before I put it back together, I'd like to go on more than a guess for the gap.

I haven't found a gap measurement yet. What I've found is that screws are likely too loose according to this source. Read the first and second sections. Right now, you might be consigned to trial-and-error.

Looking at my spare I picked up for the gears, that screw is missing.  Can't see what it was for in the first place since the odometer wheel shaft seems pretty well located.  I wonder if it was the cause of your malfunction or a red herring.

I have been inside several speedometers in the past couple years and have never seen the set screw you speak of.  Perhaps it was only used in the early model instrument clusters.

Ricardo Palao helped me, suggesting a gap of 2mm, on the FaceBook group "BMW-K  motorcycles K1 k75  k100  k1100 (purists)". I've put around 250 miles on it since reassembling with that tolerance, and it's working great.
