Ready to Try a Radial
« on: October 01, 2019, 04:47:35 PM »
I've run Pirelli Sport Demons and Avon Roadriders as new tires on my bricks as I don't count what came on them as they are usually worn and/or aged.  I like the Avon Roadriders on my airheads and am please with them on my '93 K75S.

The '94 was purchased with a set of Metzeler Lazertecs that I never liked which may be because of their age or wear so this time I put on a set of Metzeler Roadtec 01 radial tires.

Will be updating with a ride report later this year.

Yup, that's the one.  Got a set of adapters for the airhead too.
I put the Roadriders on mine this year. Done 1000 miles do far. A great tyre, imho.

The $40 rebate from Metzeler arrived last week.
It is on a Wirecard debit MasterCard which cannot be used on an ATM so it is for purchases only.

they all do that now.  the rebate i got on my Dunlop Q3+'s was on a visa debit card.
tires were not for the K75, but they are the best tires i have had on a bike.  amazing grip.

So now that you've ridden the Metzeler Roadtec 01 tires, what is the verdict? Do you like them?

To be honest I have not ridden them enough and not on the twisty roads to give them a good test for an opinion.  With four Beemers in the stable I alternate with my trips.

I know it has been quite a while and because of events I have not ridden this bike enough to get a feel for the tires.  I'm still not sure if they are true radial or if they are a Metzeler "X-Ply" tire.  I had planned on taking it out a couple of months ago but found some coolant in the weep hole so a water pump rebuild was in order.

So finally I took it on a 500+ mile trip this last week with mostly highway but some twisties near the Blue Ridge.
These tires really feel planted and predictable and right now I like them very much.  Next trip I hope is to do more riding in the mountains.

Metzeler Roadtec 01 tires can be either radial or "X-Ply" non-radial.  If the tire size has an R in it then it's a radial.

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I did not realize that only certain sizes were available in radial.  Mine are "X-Ply" - regardless I think they are great so far.
