Speedometers and odometers repair
« on: October 01, 2011, 06:13:23 PM »
Don't know if I am putting this info in the right place but here goes. Recently my odometer and trip meter quit working on my 89 K100rs. Remembered a company from my airhead days called Overseas Speedometer located in Austin Tx., had used them several times years ago. A quick look revealed a website (www.speedometer.com) with all their info. Long story short they service BMW k bike speedometers. Sent mine off, got everything fixed, and I am very happy with the results. Check out their site if you need repairs on your older k bike speedometer or odometer, (and no I am not related to the owner). kenray in Katy TX.

The invoice indicated 3 gears were replaced along with 4 background bulbs. Neither the trip meter nor the odometer were functioning when I sent it off. As to the bulbs I did not know they were in need of replacing as I very seldom ride at night.  kenray in Katy TX.

Thats pretty common on early k odometers.  I believe MotoMeter made some of the gears out of compressed applesauce.  ;D

I realize this is an old thread, but my K75 odo is not functional, so I called Rick at the phone number found at www.speedometer.com and he said the current cost to overhaul and replace gears in odo is right around $200....
sounds like a decent deal and he said the new gears are much longer lasting than OEM...I'll send mine after the riding season...My speedo works fine, just the odo is bad.

fyi...

Just sent them a request for a quote. Riding home today I noticed the Odo and Trip quit moving, adding my mileage in my head I figured out I would be empty just past home, and I was right as the 4L light came on within a mile of home.
