Crankcase - sealed system?
« on: September 13, 2011, 05:02:51 AM »
I did my first fluids change over the weekend, no problems and it all went smoothly.  Well, apart from dribbling some gearbox down the centre stand and on to the ground!

After refilling I started the bike up to circulate the oil and make sure there were no leaks.  To satisfy my own curiosity I removed the oil filler cap top make sure oil was splashing around in there.  Not necessary I know, but...

When I removed the filler cap the engine almost cut out, and wouldn't rev.  Putting the cap back on the engine recovered.  I'm guessing that the K has some sort of sealed system to help burn fumes, etc and removing the cap unsealed it and messed up the fuelling.

Is this the way it should have behaved or does it maybe indicate a problem elsewhere?

Ta,

Simon.

It has a breather from the crankcase to the airfilter box and doing that changes the level of vacuum by letting the air in and the wrong fuel mix gets delivered and it snuffs out the hamsters and the engine stops turning.

Ah, I though that racket was the fuel pump but it's been hamsters all this time!
