Specific Question about 87 K75C
« on: April 26, 2014, 07:51:18 PM »
Ok, I am elderly and want  long-wearing tires for my K75C....I do not lean into twisties  hardly at all and never ride in the rain.  So performance is not high on my list of wants in a tire.....A nice, smooth running, LONG lasting tire is, however.

I did a search on "tire" and read all the posts that came up and that helped some...

Low Price is not irrelevant but is not near  the top of my list..

I will likely want H rated, tubeless tires...

Refresher;  Rear 120/90-18...Front 100/90 - 18......Radial or bias makes no difference to me..

Thank you...

You will probably find that Radial tires will be softer and have more "stick" to the road, but the downside will be that they won't last as long.
Bias ply will have a higher mileage life in the long run.

My 1990 K75 uses a 100/90/18 front and 130/90/17 rear.  Has a rear disk brake rather than a drum.

If you're after long tire Life: Metzler ME88 or ME880 if available.  More importantly, look for the manufacture date. the more recent the better.

thank you for info based on VIN number...it is good to know that..I put it on my desktop..
I am not clear on whether you mean my K75 is actually one of the USA only T models.
Please clarify...

Also, thanks for additional info on tires...I saw the metzelers for sale but saw they were slightly different size than stock (before I read your suggestion) so I researched various reviews on tires, and ordered the stock sizes based on 93 rather favorable reviews of the Pirelli Route 66 front and rear tire.....They were quite inexpensive, $153 total for both tires delivered........I'll be just putting the front one on for now, as the current rear tire is dated mid 2012 and I think it will be good for another entire season..It's an Avon......front ones last me longer anyway...I ordered both so as to eliminate shipping cost...

 Regards,

Bob

Got the Pirelli Rt66 tires from BikeBandit Company.

I also checked the order status and see that the price was $163 delivered, not $150 something as mentioned in my earlier post...

Still -- at ~$82 apiece it's not much more than the Shinko 712 I just got. When my current Shinko front is done for I'll look at the Pirellis or other options.

About to order a set of shoes for my 86 K75c w/drum brake.. Y-spoke / snowflake rims.

Has it been verified by anyone that a 130 will fit the rear? Seems like I have the room but I'm hoping for the warm fuzzy from someone with actual experience.

Also, if +10 width works on the back, why wouldn't it work on the front? 110/90-18??

My 87 K75C (drum brake) with a 120/90-18 rear tire has a flange welded to the muffler that holds a rubber cushion for the retracted side stand. That flange is within a few mm of the tire. I am not certain a 130/90 would fit.
