K75 won't start - help needed
« on: February 02, 2017, 03:49:46 PM »
Has been running fine all week, this morning it wouldn't start (after I got to work of course). When I turn the key, the tach moves up but nothing else on the bike works. Any ideas?
I've got the bike back home and on the battery charger, will try it again this evening but appreciate any help in the mean time.

Welcome to the Motobrick!  First of all, it looks like you are new here, so a bit of an introduction is customary.  A little bit about you and your bike, riding history, previous bikes, that kind of stuff.

Now, about your bike.  Besides the tach, are there any other things out of the ordinary?  Does the headlight and tail light work?  Horn, turn signals, instrument cluster lights, etc.  What happens to them when you push the starter?  I can't tell from the video if the idiot lights in the cluster come on when the key is turned.

How long have you had this bike?  Any previous problems?   Any modifications to the bike?

I had a similar problem a couple years ago.  Turned out it was the contacts inside the ignition switch.  These switches do cause a similar problem to what you are seeing.

There are write ups on how to disassemble and clean the contacts in that switch.

Of course, I am assuming you have checked all the fuses and cleaned the ground connections both under the tank and on the side of the intermediate engine section just above the shifter.

Fused checked out good. Didn't have any lights even after charging for a few hours. Pulled out my jump start pack and hooked it up- bike started right up. New battery and a $120 lighter seemed to do the trick.

Great!  So pull up a chair and tell us a little about you and your brick.  Got any pictures?
