Notchy throttle
« on: September 28, 2016, 09:35:00 AM »
I'm putting this topic here for informational purposes since it's solved.

When assembling my 1995/1994 Frankenbike (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,8569.msg65996.html#msg65996) I figured I'd just swap out the heated grips from the retired 1995 and put them on the 1994. So I put the heated grips from the 1995 on the 1994, using the 1994's original grip assembly, throttle cam and throttle assembly cap. When I got them on, the throttle was notchy -- obviously something was funky with the cam in the throttle grip assembly or with the gears in the grip.

I spent the good part of a day taking it apart and putting it back together again before giving up and calling my buddy Mike B who was a BMW mechanic back in the 1990's. Mike informed me that I needed use the entire assembly from one bike or another, i.e. grip, cam and cap. You can't mix-n-match them.

I don't know how this is possible -- there is only one number per part listed on the fiche. All I know is using the entire assembly, i.e. #8, #10, #5 (tube, not including rubber covering), and #9, did the notchiness go away. I tried using just the 1995 cam and cap in the 1994 housing, no dice. It was all or nothing, or should I say, all or notching.

Like I said, I don't know why, all I know is that it was an unexpected, undocumented PITA that I hope noone else has to deal with.

This mod was done to reduce the throttle twist motion.

So this mod was made in 1995, the last K75 production year? And if you want to replace any one of these parts with a part that's listed in the fiche, you have to replace the entire assembly?

That's kind of bizarre.

#5, 8, 9 is matched parts for this mod, #10 should be unchanged in design.
