1988 K75S Coolant from Weep Hole Question
« on: June 18, 2016, 01:13:06 PM »
Any chance of a coolant seal break-in?

On my fifth start-up post rebuild, but first time allowing the engine to get hot enough for the fan to engage, I ended up getting a few drops of coolant out of the weep hole. The oil/water pump portion of the rebuild went smoothly and I used the updated impeller, seals and stuff. The shaft of the impeller drive gear had signs of discoloration, but was in no way worn or pitted. If it was a low-fairingless K, I'd say screw it and see how bad it gets.

Thoughts?

You still have a problem it's not going to fix it's self. Apparently they can be really finicky to repair. There are posts on the problem.

Is it leaking more or less than before?

I've mentioned my trials with a pump seal on this and other forums.  After two tries and then finding out that the updated ceramic seal requires a different sized spacer bushing than the original, I'm leak-free.

No telling as the bike wasn't running when I bought it.

I installed a new shaft and went with another set of seals (oil and water). I believe I pushed (separated) the coolant seal on my last rebuild. Time will tell on this one.
