I must have a low seat.
« on: June 28, 2016, 07:56:21 PM »
I'm fairly new to K-bikes, having only been a member of "the club" since this past February when I scored a very nice '90 K75.  So far I love the machine and prefer to ride it rather than my 1200GS. Here's my issue:

I'm about 5'-11" and 210 pounds (ok, maybe 215 on a bad day).  When I'm riding the K bike I feel like I'm too folded up, in other words, the foot pegs are too close to my waist.  I though about trying to install some lower foot pegs but that looks like a challenge with the way the shift lever and brake lever are positioned.

Then I noticed that my bike doesn't have those pieces of plastic on each side that most K-bikes have.  You know, the ones that "connect" the gas tank to the rear fender/cowling?  Anyway, my seat projects down way too low to accommodate those missing missing pieces, so I slowly came to the conclusion "I must have a low seat!".

The seat is a Corbin with no identifying marks on it other than the letters LK welded in the plastic underneath.  It's 31" give or take 1/4" from the ground to the seat when the bike is vertical with no one sitting on the seat.

Here's a picture:

So, if this is a low seat, maybe I should try to score a standard height seat?  But then the missing plastic pieces would be more noticeable, right?  Should I just buy another motorcycle?  Of course, I couldn't possibly sell this one, but more is better, right?

I'll think about it but then, as I said, I'd have to track down those missing pieces of plastic and paint them to match.  Jeesh.

Also, with you in Costa Rica and me in Oregon the shipping might make it not feasible.  I recently shipped a Parabellum fairing to a guy in Wisconsin and it cost me $79!

Just paint them - I would want to include mine in the swap and you include the bits you won't need any more as well.  Hinges and everything

Well, now I'm more interested.  How high is your seat?  As I said, mine sits 31" with no weight on the bike.  And what about the shipping?  Do you ever come back to the US?

Well I would have you ship to my in-laws in Alabama so no worries there, they are putting together a big load of stuff I need to then send it down by sea - there are a few down sides to living in paradise!  I would take care of shipping your bits to you, I think this could be a good deal for us both, pm me and we can work it out

That is a low seat.  Going to need to change a bit of hardware on both bikes to hold the seat in place.

+1 on needing to change the hardware as Eliptin said..not easy at all to get it just right...Cannot just swap seats in this case with a "high seat" bike.  Beware.

This thread - http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,2829.0.html  - seems to cover the needed hardware very well - with some photos and videos I don't think it is would be htat hard for us to make the swap work

Consider comparing the K100's battery cover inside and top mounting hardware to what is needed for a K75 Standard high seat model.

The actual hardware change is not bad at all but you need it all and I believe some is no longer available from BMW and is expensive.

I will have a pristine low seat and the complete hardware set for it soon as soon as I can get it disassembled. PM me if interested.

that low seat in the OP's picture does not look to be factory.  May or may not use the same hardware. Here is normal low seat....
