tube type dual sport tires, on tubeless rims ?
« on: July 07, 2016, 11:41:07 AM »
Hey Brickers,
i have a serious question ....
Ive done my research on the web and can't find a good answer .
Has anyone ever ran a tube type tire "with the tube installed" , on a k100 ( non tube type rim) or any bike for that matter with a aloy wheel designed for tubeless tires.

I would love to run dual sport [Michelin T63 ]tires on my bike ( don't ask why) its just for the look.
I don't see why it wouldn't work , but some body told me the tire would fly off the rim ( now its stuck in my head)

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for you comments...

I would have 2 concerns:
1, the bead of the tube type tire-- will it seat to the tubless style rim.
I know that it doesn't have to hold air pressure, but it does have to keep the tire locked to the rim when pressurized. I've not worked with tube type motorcycle tires/rims, so I don't know one way or the other. They may hold fine, but on the other hand......

2, is the valve stem hole in the rim large enough to accommodate the stem of the tube, location, etc without damage to the stem.....

Any tire could be mounted if it's just for the look. It's riding on them that could be dangerous although some riders have had good luck riding on unlikely tire and wheel combinations. How long that luck lasted is usually undisclosed.

Because you have chosen Michelins, you might consider going to this site and reading under the category Tubeless Tires and Tubes: Warnings. Is this just a company being overly cautious about liability? I'm fairly certain there are several ways to find out and one of them might be painful. Anyway, to speed the process, here's an extract of the text.
