Hall Sensor Too Far Advanced?
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:23:52 PM »
This seems like a lot of advance on the Hall Sensor.  The throttle is smoother and more responsive like this?  And it doesn't knock at all.......like I can go even further advanced.  And how on earth would a fella go about using a timing light on the Hall Sensor when the timing marks are covered up.  I mean you have to take it apart to see the timing marks, which means it won't be running.  Do you transfer the mark to a more visible spot, put it back together, then use a timing light?

Looks like you're doing the "road timing" method, bizarro, described in this post and elsewhere. You're helping to break ground doing this on a 4V. Advance it, give it hell and let us know how it all turns out. If it doesn't turn out so well, there's an 1100 down in Ferrisburgh still for sale.

This post has an image of how timing marks were superimposed in a K75.

You are correct sir.  I am trying the road timing method. I saw and read both those posts and others.   I advanced it about half that distance and got no pinging or knocking that I could sense so I wanted to "push it" to see what would happen.  I will probably "chicken out" and put it back where it was.

It was getting pretty sluggish below 3000 rpm.  It seemed to be firing late? But I don't know shit from shinola.  Also I have a ton of carbon all around.  Tail pipe. Spark plugs.  So with this machine being a technological abomination, and me being a neanderthal.  Well, lets just say it is hit or miss for me.  I can't afford to bring it to a shop, and don't have the know how, or tools to address it properly.  I am learning and trying.  I haven't been able to check the compression, but it burns no oil to speak of,(a couple of ounces every 1K). Idle is a little stumbly, but not awful. It does get a rumble, gargle just over 3500 rpm.  I am determined to do it all!  So the long and the short is I know the fuel/ignition needs some attention, but I am just not sure how to tackle it.  And it runs pretty well over all.  My concern is am I damaging something?  And to really decarbonize an engine means taking off the head.  And how would you decarbonize the pipes.  I should start by getting a fault code reader I guess? Ahh and the list goes on! :dunno

How much is the bike in Ferrisburg? :hehehe  Who knows how long before I kill this one!

Yep, I moved it back to it's regular setting and it still seems to be running better.  Musta needed the thottle body sync more than I thought.  I took the needles right out and cleaned and polished them up a bit.  Still at the drawing board(guessing game) with the carbon buildup.  It has been that way since I bought the beast? :dunno

Way too focused on the "carbon".  Ignore it. Red herring.

Do a complete,  systematic tune up according to your service manual.  Do not skip any steps.

It's another tragic manifestation of Water Wetter abuse, Marshall. I think he's working through it.
