Engine Swap ?
« on: January 14, 2016, 07:45:02 PM »
Anybody here successfully swapped an engine in a K75?

My 1988 K75c has an auxiliary drive shaft that has fused to the alternator drive flange. The aux. shaft wobbles, eating up alternators and my wallet. With the shaft fused to the drive flange it's necessary to drop the engine and open 'er up as they say... Folks who know said it would be easier to buy a later engine (1992-1995) and swap it in. Is this possible on a 1988? I'm a novice mechanic but very motivated. I love this bike, and would rather fix it than dump it and move on.

What do you guys think? Is it possible to put a 1992 or later engine in a 1988, and if so how difficult a procedure is this?

Thank you everyone !

Alternator drive flange needs to be pulled before you can split the engine any way.The pulling can be done with engine in place. The puller needs to be special for the legs to get behind it (grind them). The aux shaft can be knocked in but only gently to release what should be a loose assembly.
Just odd that it wobbles.
New engine would be nice and... easy.
