Center Stand Failure Prevention Question

I read somewhere, here perhaps, to spray/treat/coat the inner steel pipe of the center stand with something to stop interior rusting, which would lead to failure. Same thing for the kickstand extension. Any thoughts? I'm finished with the exterior of mine and want to hit the interior with something before I re-cap it.

Paint like Rustoleum suitable for metal surfaces and periodic inspection with an endoscopic camera attached to a high-defintion monitor that has a 36" screen.

Jay, I think the natives are getting restless :hehehe.  It seems it was suggested here somewhere to use expanding foam to fill the pipes.  I've searched and been unable to find the reference :dunno2:...anyway, I have used foam but do not have long term results.

I cleaned mine out then poured in LPS 3 and let it soak the poured it out and let it dry then repeated the process. Esso used LPS products on the oil platforms in Bass Strait, a very harsh environment. LPS 3 leaves a waxy coating that will last  for years.

Whatever the method that you choose to use, I definitely suggest using something. I was one of the unfortunate ones that had one break. Not pretty.

You fellas reminded me that I never got around to filling mine with expanding foam as I'd planned to... dangit. Already had one go on me and I'm on my second... so far.

This is the method I have been using:
Bead blast all the shit off,weld any cracks&missing bits back on,Wire brush the shit off,hot zinc metal spray,powdercoat.
All my precious bikes are treated this way.Brick was done early '90s.
Good as new,still.

You can use an updated k1200 stand. The mounting plate does not match up but the center-stand part eyelits do.

I will be using this fairly soon. They are also REALLY CHEAP ON EBAY!
