Bridgestone S11 Spitfires are no more!
« on: October 23, 2015, 12:38:54 PM »
My rear tire is getting pretty close to being replaced, so I looked up a replacement. And lo and behold, it appears that the Bridgestone S11's I've been using are no more. Alas.

Ordered a Michelin Pilot-Activ. Will see how that works.

I've wanted to try the Pilot Active but they're too expensive for my tastes...over $150 locally without installation

I got one for 130 shipped. Seems pretty typical, price wise for most rears.

Bias. Alas. No radials that I can find that fit the 2.75 inch rim, and less so that are the original size.

My Shinko 712 rear was $66, Tour Master was $85 (both from a brick and mortar dealer)  :riding:

Crap!  I really liked the price/performance qualities of the spitfire.

That's too bad ... I had read some good reviews of the Spitfires. They were on my short-list together with Sport Demons (which I have now) and Avon AM26 Roadrider ... have been reading some good reviews of the latter both here and elsewhere.

Pricing here in Canada is typically higher than you benefit from in the US (and XR not helping!) - here are prices for stock K75s 130/90/17 rear size from my preferred national supplier (excl tax, but incl shipping, additional disc applied if front purchased also) :

Sport Demon $ 183
Spitfire $ 137
AM26 $159

So I'm thinking I'll give the Avons a try - front is available in both stock 100/90/18 or alternate 110/80/18 (3mm wider / 2 mm lower diam) ... any thoughts on which would be the better choice for the front?

Try Pete's Superbike in Quebec.  Good prices and good service.  He'll ship door to door, even right to the garage where you'll get the tires changed if you want.

The Sport Demons work well enough in both wet and dry conditions but have no experience of any other tire on the brick - I fitted them whilst the bike was in the UK and have only done about 3 or 4k miles - wear is even, no cupping. So replacing due to age (9 possibly 10 years) rather than wear.

rbm - just checked petes superbike and for comparison their price for a set of avons is $40 lower than cm ... thanks again

wmax, chaos ... might be worth a look as they still show a listing for spitfires (avail not confirmed) and ship to the us.

Edit

rbm ... upon placing items in basket, shipping charges of $38 were added (cm offers free shipping + $10 disc when ordering a pair) so in fact pricing is a little higher ...
