Lower Throttle Bodies/ Lower Intake Manifold Rubbers
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:36:10 AM »
Hi folks,
Whatever you call these thingys...they are the rubbers that bolt to the block below the fuel rail. My question: how prone to failure/ cracking are these units on a 29 year old brick? Is it a given that they should be replaced in time, much as the above-rail rubbers should be? I've done my uppers but haven't tested the system integrity on the lowers.

Thanks in advance!

All you can do is to spray test them for leaks, that might give you an idea.
Eventually I do believe that you will need to replace them at some point and time.

I think I have replaced a couple of mine, as well as all of the rubber bits above and below them.

Thanks Scott. I suspected as much. I guess my brick will constantly have me spending money on one thing or another! That's what old bikes do! A set of rubbers comes in at around $240 all in. Then it would probably be wise to have the injectors cleaned, new o-rings, etc.. Do these injectors really need cleaning at 65K miles? My Sienna has about 150K miles on her and those have never been cleaned...maybe they should be.

Thanks again.

I've yet to have my injectors professionally done.
I use Seafoam in the fuel tank 2-3x per riding season and I can't say as I have had any injector related issues.

I've got 108K on my '95 and 50K on my '97.

I've read somewhere that additives don't actually "clean" injectors. They have to be cleaned ultrasonically....not sure where the truth lies on this matter. I guess Mr. Injector does a booming business for that reason/ thinking.
