Checking in from the D
« on: October 05, 2015, 09:36:44 AM »
Hi, all.

Just picked up an 85 K100RS in Chicago and I'm planning on chopping it into a "cafe"-like bike.

I currently ride a 2007 DL1000, and while a fun bike while I was living in northern Virginia, it's absolutely boring to ride that thing around SE Michigan.  All the roads are straight, and presented to you in 1-mile intervals.  Thus, a touring bike like the VStrom really has no soul around here, so I'm going to sell it to finance my rebuild of the K100.

The K100, by contrast, is a whole different story.  Even at 30 years old and indicating 21000 miles on the Odo (which broke who knows how many miles ago... :dunno), this little bike a hoot.  It rattles, squeaks, smokes, and rumbles down the road.  So much fun!  Looking forward to doing a complete tear-down and rebuild.

I am an active Army officer with 19 years in...just a few more to go before I hang it up.  Originally from a town near Munich, Germany, I've been a diehard BMW fan for my entire life.  That becomes kind of funny when you consider that this bike is my first BMW product...ever.

In any case, looking forward to the project and all the help I'm planning on seeking on this site.
