Coolant completely drained through weep hole while bikes off
« on: September 25, 2015, 06:32:42 PM »
So... As it is what started as a fluid leak (only from cooling fluids) through weep hole has now turned into having completely drained itself through weep hole.  Is this now certainly a rebuild the oump scenario? If so do I have to do both oil and coolant sealswhere can I find the seals?

I didn't think that seal could get thaaaat bad but yeah I'd say new seals are in order.

You pretty much have to do replace both seals while you're in there but from what I remember it's not practical to remove the water pump seal without removing the oil pump seal. The oil pump seal is cheap so there's little reason to reuse it.

My local BMW Motorrad dealer had at least the water pump seal in stock. I can't remember if the oil pump seal was as I ordered the other parts to update things to the new style of water pump seal (but I ordered before tearing it down and mine had already been updated)

If you haven't come across it yet I used this thread to help with the water pump seal. There are also threads here on Motobrick about it

I'd just about bet that in the process of dis-assembly that the oil seal will be damaged to the point that you won't be able to re-use it.

The seals are each only about $25, not worth trying to save it in my book.

If you still have the original style pump internals(cast impeller as opposed to stamped steel), what I have read/heard on line about these old style pumps assemblies, you may have to update it with all new re-designed parts. Impeller, seals, shaft, spacers, etc.....
