Main Seal Replacement Question
« on: September 03, 2015, 09:57:58 PM »
Hello,

I stripped my 1994 K75 down to the main seal. There doesn't seem to be much coming out of it (see photo) but it might be 20 years old, and I thought I'd replace it while I was in there. There was some gunk in and around the clutch, but nothing coming out the weep hole.

I know the seal sits over some ball bearings. Is there a way to just buy the replacement seal without the bearings? anyone have advice for how to find that? I can find the unit with the bearings for $133, but there's no way the seal alone should cost that.

Thanks!

That o-ring alone is probably the real cause of the oil leak....................Not uncommon at all.

Check the gaps between the bell/mid-housing, and the engine block. You might find some pooling in those "pockets". You do have a leak. (Isn't the inside of the bell/mid housing supposed to be silverish/metalic aluminum? It's black/covered in oil in you pic) It will only get worse.
