Strange fork noise
« on: July 26, 2015, 05:35:42 PM »
My 1990 K75S (28K miles) is doing something weird; when I stand it up after being on the side stand I hear a squeaking noise. I hear it when I pump the forks a few times but then it goes away. All fasteners are tight, no leakage on forks. I can't remember last time I changed the oil so I guess that's a good place as any to start. I'm getting conflicting info as to how much oil I should be putting in them, Clymer says 270-290 cc ? Also wonder what weight is appropriate for crappy new england roads...

TIA

Pete

greetings mejetski2000...

when considering the high mileage of your motobrick... and the sound you described... im thinking your motobrick is simply worn out and needs off the frame restoration and a complete overhauling...

fork stuff...

Yep, ready for the scrappers. I dug out the owners manual, said just over 9oz per leg. Priced the BMW fluid @ MAX, pretty steep $$

Hi Jetski,

Save Max for the exotic original parts; for fork oil, this is the stuff:

Arrgh...ordered some Maxima and syringe last night. I looked at logbook and it appears I haven't changed it since 16K miles, hopefully this stuff will quiet things down, wish I'd known about the Honda stuff sooner, have a local dealer even. Thanks for the tip.

Well I bought the wrong Maxima oil so I guess I'll give that Honda oil a go, how much will I need ?
