Recent owner of a k75. Beginning to work on her in sections. First = Fuel Tank

Noticed this build up inside the fuel tank, as well as a broken, pre-fuel pump filter and the original fuel filter (think its time for a new one? ! :p).

If anyone wants to comment and fill my novice head with information, i am all eyes

I believe the mileage is around 25k.

I must say that is much different than what mine looked/looks like. I used a brillo pad to where I could reach, unfortunately all of the oxidation has not been removed.  I did try to remove the plate on the underside of the tank, however that did not fare well. The screws are in TIGHT. I used penetrating oil followed by a nice bump with the  screwdriver = no progress.

Not sure how well the process would work without removing the sending unit, or if anyone is even doing it anymore, but there was a day when some machine shops would steam clean the insides of fuel tanks. (to prep them for welding repair)

The steam cleaning sounds like a fantastic idea. It's likely I won't go that route for the mere cause of trying to keep expenses low.

Just read a thread where some suggest vinegar will clean out a fuel tank. Apparently radiator shops can clean out a fuel tank to like-new condition too. Might be worth a phone call.

Otherwise clean fuel and a bottle of Techron for the next dozen fill-ups might do the trick too.

Question/issue: I originally took apart my track because something is leaving somewhere. I originally thought it to be fuel. Whatever is leaking looks like this yellowish stuff coming from somewhere above?  and landing near the fuel injectors. No apparent leaks were found during my original, thorough gas tank evaluation. Please help. I'm going to ride today and see whatelse happens with a bit more fuel added

How's your coolant level? Easy to check and change with the tank off.

The high and low levels on the coolant overflow tank do not accurately indicate coolant level in the bike.

With the bike on the center stand and the tank off, unscrew the coolant filler cap with your hand. It should be topped-off with coolant.
