Fuel Line

I'm a new owner of a 93 K75S and have been researching what I need to do to this machine before I take it out on a long ride.

As an owner of two BMW Airheads, a '78 R100S and a 91 R100RT, I like to do all I'm able by myself.

To this end, I've dismantled the fairings to expose all the components and have ordered all the necessary things to change all the fluids and filter to start from a known point.  This site as well as many others has been a very valuable source of information.

Two questions I have yet to find an answer:
- exactly which lights are supposed to come on with the key turned to on?
-- the overtemp and fuel light do not illuminate, is this normal? How can I test these circuits if there is no POST?

- the fuel line from the tank (pump) t the rail has some slight cracking and I'm inclined to replace it
-- the BMW price is almost $30, is there a suitable substitute?
I have no problem paying for the necessary components to make this bike a reliable stablemate to my airheads but this piece of hose seems high.

Additionally the coolant overflow tank with the clear section to show quantity is badly sun damaged so I will be replacing it because it appears to be rather fragile.  Is this normal?

I'm eager to get my brick on the road as my summer commuter.

All suggestions and hints are appreciated.

I bought 6 feet of fuel injection line from my local seal and rubber hose supplier for 24.00. Yes it is normal for the line to discolor, must guys replace it with clear hose from your local hardware store, they usuall have clear hose in bulk.

That's four questions....

Overheat light:  It will only come on when the bike overheats. If you want to test it then pull the radiator fan fuse (#7) and let the bike idle until the light comes on.  Don'y worry about hurting the engine.  If that circuit isn't working properly then the radiator cap will blow before any damage is done to the engine - just like a car.

Fuel light: Only comes on when you have about a gallon or less left in the tank.  If you want to test that then remove the gas cap and hold down the fuel level sender arm for about 30 seconds or so.

Any fuel line will do - just make sure that it's for a pressurized fuel injected fuel system. (PS: If replacing any lines inside of the tank then make sure they are submersible lines.)
