I don't see the advantage of using the long bolt procedure to slide the trans back. I prefer to remove the transmission completely which then makes it easier to clean the splines of both the clutch disc and the trans input shaft. Aside from physically lifting the trans what is the advantage to sliding it? Can you get away with like leaving the final drive and wheel on? I guess I haven't thought about it since I have a rear drum and that's easier to disassemble than a rear disc brake bike.

Watch for excessive wear on the clutch disc splines. I decided to replace my disc due to that. The trans shaft was still fine though.

Did the complete splinelube and other maintenance. After the clutch spline lube shifting is fine and the clutch isn't dragging when hot.
I used 4 long bolts to help holding the tranny while lubing. It slid nicely back on the clutch splines. Thanks for all the helpfull comments
