Yet another ABS thread
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:54:44 PM »
My bike is running great smoth as can be idle's well still wont start but thats being worked on. My issue now is that my ABS light stays on. Not the normal alternating flashing I read in other threads just on solid the entire time the bike is running. I need to get the bike inspected and was worried this would indicate the ABS was dead and not pass inspection. could the light being on be due to the fact that the bike is moving before its running? I know the normal start up is ignition start bike abs does self check last part checked is after were off and rolling. Does the fact that I push start the bike mean its getting some weird fault?

1st thing I would check is to make sure that the ABS switch on the dash isn't shorted.

Thanks wasn't even aware there was an ABS switch my switches are kinda hard to identify. (Adding them to the list of things to replace/refurbish) hazard light switch is a bit touchy so I would assume the ABS switch is in need of a cleaning as well. Tomorrow before work I'll try and pull the ABS switch and clean the contacts.

Seeing as I have all these switch blanks locations is their a good source for switches that will match? If i add additional lighting or other such electrical devices I would prefer that it all look factory. Are they stock switches from a BMW car I can cross reference. If I were to do the manual fan switch mod a fan or AC switch from a car would look great on the bike.

There are the BMW switches at a slight cost, but it matches perfectly.

You can also buy replacement identification inserts for the switches if you can't read yours anymore.

You can source the part using the microfiche on a number of dealer's sites. I use Bobs bmw in Maryland because it's well laid out and easy to navigate.

If you can't find e part on the fiche, call them...Madigan is the guy I talk to...he's quite knowledgable.

figured I'd post the update so if anyone else runs into this they will see one solution. Worked the Dash switch for ABS reset a bit and the light went back out. so it is just a corroded dash switch.
