Rear master cylinder leak
« on: July 19, 2014, 10:03:08 AM »
My rear master cylinder is leaking slightly. I have read tht cleaning might stop the leak vs  new kit. What I havent seen referenced is if bleeding is required after this. I would think it would be. Are these ABS II rear brakes difficult to bleed....

Thanks
Mike

Mel,

FWIW - When my rear master cylinder leaked and finally ruptured one morning while riding, the wind blew the brake fluid onto my rear shock and destroyed the shock's seals. I had to replace the shock and master cylinder. Fix it soon.

Rebuild or replace now. When it fails it will cost a whole lot more the taking preventative action. Besides that, brake fluid will destroy the paint on the frame.  Yes, you will have to bleed the rear. There should be a guide in the liberty or at ibmwr site

ABS2 is no problem to bleed
