K-biking in the Capital
« on: April 14, 2014, 12:42:22 PM »
Hello

My name is David and I'm a BMW rider from Ottawa... Some may think this is a problem but not me!

Truth be told I've been riding for about 5 years, I started out with a couple of Honda's (nighthawk then upgraded to the 919).  I started going to the track so upgraded again to a kwikasfaki ninja 636 (awesome) but got a ticket that brought me to the sober realization that supersports are a little too much fun... So I tried some dirt biking on a Suzuki DRZ-400, tons of fun again but the combination of speed, lack of dirt skill and not much of a fearfactor led me to another sober realization that unless I put a lot of time into practicing I'll hurt myself and my family.  So after all these Japanese bikes I picked up a 96 R1100GS and wondered why I didn't just start with that bike... I've done touring and light off road with it and it was so awesome so I decided to add another BMW to start a collection and over the winter I picked up a 1987 K75!

I had a terrible experience purchasing it (through a dealer...) but I finally got it on the road after a long winter and I think it's worth it.

I look forward to asking you all some questions over the next few years, I will probably make some minor modifications and do most of my own basic maintenance.  We have an excellent BMW Mechanic here in town that will take care of the bike otherwise!

Details of the bike: 1987 K75 with 112k KM, from what I can tell the bike has been well maintained (all major services up to about 70k KM are logged in the user manual).  It's got a rear drum brake and is black, also for a 27 year old the body work and paint is in great shape, a couple of touch ups and no one will know the difference. It lived most of it's life in Edmonton Alberta and somehow ended up in Ottawa Ontario, I'm a little curious to know how but won't lose sleep over it! I'll post some ride pics through the season!

Cheers
Dave
