Greetings,
I am new to this forum. I am a 57 year old guy who has returned last summer to riding motorcycles after a twenty year absence. A BMW was always a dream for me, in particular a four-cylinder K, but money was tight when these bikes were new so I never bought one. Last year I borrowed a motorcycle to see whether my arthritic shoulders were up to riding, and to my complete surprise they proved up to the task except that I knew that any bike I was about to purchase needed to have a fairing. Hanging on at 70mph was not on my shoulders' can do list, and what better fairing to have than a K RT?
I looked around and eventually bought a 1991 K100LT; it was ex-Police, and whilst not the prettiest bike, it was mechanically sound and reliable. I love tinkering and modifying bikes, so I had a plan to upgrade to K1100 front end, radial tyres, etc. Then a couple of weeks ago a rather nice K1100LT appeared on ebay. It attracted a few bids, and at the last moment I had a bid, confident that it was not going to be enough to secure it. Guess what? Yes, I won the auction; now I need to travel to the other end of the country to collect it.
After getting it home, I will do the things I already did to the K100LT: relays for headlamp operation, LED auxuiliary lighting, driving lamps, and then start to modify it for radial tyres. A service, spline lube, etc., will also be undertaken. Hopefully, it will be ready in time for the better weather.
