the heavy rain that shorted it was months ago, so its plenty dry, could be at the switch, i should start there, even if it was a short it was that hard of a rain, it pooled up everywhere, but my luck, all the way under the tank.

With this and your op in mind my guesses are as follow:
1)Burnt orange wire
2)Fried switch
3)Wires to the grips have a short
and/or
4)The grips have a short and are dead
The switch and wires are easily checked with a multi-meter,.
Also you can tell if the orange wire is dead by checking for power at the switch(this might save you the hassle of removing the tank).
If your switch is not getting power then you know that the problem is between the orange wire connection and the fused power in the electrics box.
If it is getting power then the problem is either the wires in the bars or the grips themselves.
^Trying to be helpful here, not patronizing. When I don't know if someones wrenching experience is above, the same as or lower than mine I cover basic stuff until finding out that such is not needed.
