85 K100 and 87 k100rt; what will cross over?
« on: April 09, 2013, 09:53:07 PM »
Im going to look at an 87 k100rt parts bike for my 85 k100. What will work on my bike and what wont?  Im hoping the speedo is good and the rotors.

I figure the desmodromic valves will really come in handy along with the variator weights.

But seriously, are the gas tanks the same? Im going to assume that the only differences will be the fairing, mounts, handlebars and cable lengths.

Brief follow up as its late. The donor is indeed an 87 k100LT. It has the hard side bags painted to match, the top case, and the tools. Front rotors appear to have little to no wear. Speedo reads 78000 and works well, tach does not bounce!!! Controls look better than mine so i may swap over the entire bar assembly to ease my bad back a touch.

Im going to pull and store the rotors, clutch, final drive, forks, FI, not sure what else is major $$ to replace. The tank is in better shape than mine with no dent so I may swap that and worry about painting it later.

Im super happy with the deal. I got it for no cash, just traded some Snap On standard wrenches and stuff I wasnt using:). Plus he's delivering it to me on Sunday!

What else should I hoard vs sell? The smooth side bags look nice, I may swap my black ones out for those. Fairing and lowers will be for sale. The front fender is promised to a CRBMWMOA member who needs it for his RS rebuild.
