Fuel filter question

So I am ordering tons of parts, everything from plugs and wires to fuel filters to brakes rotors and speed bleeders

In one of my orders I come across two seperate fuel filters
the pre 4/1985 fuel filter and the post 4/1985 filter. one has the return line and one doesn't. so short of taking the innards of the tank apart; My bike is marked as

As the production date being 1984, would it not have the fuel return?
I know this is the original tank. does it go by production date or model year. this is a 1985 Model year K100rs

Im reffering to the "filter sock" or the fuel pump filter screen that attaches to the fuel pump

Well... that explains why I totally didn't understand your question...

That return line connects to an aluminum tube pointing down from the top of the tank, just rear of the filler hinge. Feel back there and see if there's a tube pointing down about an inch. If so, get the one with the return line, and the appropriate submersible 6mm ID fuel hose.

And, my experience suggests it'll work just fine without it. Just sayin'.
