Rear brakes problem
« on: February 16, 2013, 02:19:03 PM »
After 3 years of non use, I change fuel pump, cleans fuel tank, change radiator fluids, engine oil, gear oil.
I did NOT CHANGE or service break fluids or system.

Took the 1992 k75rt for test drive and every thing is well.  However, I do not have back brake.  Front one is perfect, but no respond at all when I press brake pedal.

Bike is equipped with ABS, however warning light had been on for them for the last 10 years.

Any advice, what should I check?

Thanks

Take the rear caliper off. Hang it from the frame so that the brake line from the ABS modulator is angled up so that any air goes to the to caliper and bleed valve.

Bleed at the modulator.

Then bleed the caliper.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

lso, be sure not to hit your knuckles on any sharp edges while bleeding.

Seconded, you are less likely to need bleeding than the brakes are :laugh

The bike was setting for 3 years, and as I am already need to work on the brakes system, should I change the fluids?  How complicated is it?  Any tips?
I do have Haynes book.

Thanks

I'd recommend changing all of the fluids.  (Including the blinker fluid.)  If nothing else you'll know they're all fresh and it will be a good starting point for future maintenance intervals.

+1  Well, except for the blinker fluid.  That is for cars.

Can I use DOT5 silicon break fluid in the 1992 k75rt with non working ABS?

+1. There are serious repercussions for mixing brake fluids as well. I cannot remember specifically what they are right now, but I do know it is very risky to mix them. If you want to switch from one to another, then you must first flush the system out well.

I went to advanced auto part with the book and that what they sold me.  It had looked so different than the BMW brakes oil, that I figure that I should ask.

Breaks are fixed.   Thank you all.

Tomorrow I am heading to big Bend.
