Did the clutch spline today! And...
« on: September 16, 2012, 06:36:59 PM »
It went quite well. The hardest part was actually removing the tranny; it was quite snug and I did have to wiggle/pull like crazy for 20/30minutes to get it out.

Splines on the input shaft and the clutch splines looked new; they were def. dry, but there was dried moly paste splattered all over inside the bellhousing which means PO did a good job maintenance wise.

Final drive pinion seal is leaking very little inside the swingarm, but the splines on the FD also looked brand new. Got all that red BMW crud out.

Driveshaft output splines are slightly worn (ie moutain effect beginning to show), but overall considering the 50Kmiles they look quite decent. Not worried. Input splines looked new.

I used a 50/50 mix of Molyslip (30$ for 85grames - yikes ) 65% moly paste and Lucas Xtra-heavy duty grease - that sh!t is sticky as pitch, and it's quite well rated durability and lube properties.

I'd rate the whole project overall very, very do-able; I did it outside in about 7 hours. Quite time consuming, but no rocket science involved.

Went for a test ride and the bike shits like a hot knife through butter, up and down.  :2thumbup:

I also re-adjusted the clutch, which probably helped, and added Molyslip Gear Moly supplement to the tranny and FD. They say not to add more than 5-10% and judging by how black it is, it's quite concentrated.

Now here's the only thing that bugged me:

When removing the rear wheel, I noticed the outside of the drum (I have drum brakes) on the wheel was burred all the way, and on the FD it was some part of the circumference that looked the same.

There's next to no play when I grab the wheel 12/6 and 9/3, just the slightest littlest play but you could consider it as none.

What could have caused it? A worn FD bearing that's been fixed on the late side?

Looks like damage that was caused before a fix as you say.
If it's not touching don't be concerned.
