"improving" rear drum brake?
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:32:08 PM »
I like that it's impossible to lock up the rear wheel on my K75, but then again, it's damn impossible to lock up the rear wheel  :hmm:

What can be made to make rear brake a bit more useful? Shoes are well inside the wear limits.

What? It's not that hard to lock up a drum rear.  Not sure why you'd want to though - unless it's just for fun.

The easiest way to do it is to hit the front as well which will transfer weight to the front and make the rear end lighter and much easier to lock up.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I do not "want" to lock it up, I was saying to that meaning that it feels very weak. Much weaker than what I'm used to...

It could be time to give the brakes a good bleed and some fresh fluid.

It's a drum brake.

If you think it's weak then I'd recommend new brake pads and cleaning the drum surface with brake cleaner. Then adjust the nut on the rod between the pedal and the arm that pulls on the brakes to tighten things up.
