K1100LT sidepanel clip repair
« on: October 13, 2011, 04:23:39 AM »
As with many other LT's the sidepanel locating clips on my newly-acquired K1100LT have sheared.  After consulting this site and others here's my solution

- a plastic-coated 12mm tool clip (lightly greased for ease of fitting)
- a small self-tapping screw
- a desktop PC self-adhesive rubber footmount (or similar sized rubber plug)
- Velcro or similar

after adjusting positions &c it works well - no more "heart-in-mouth" dramas when removing the panels.

I like it - what is the source of the "tool clip"?

I obtained a set of various sizes on eBay - searched on "plastic coated tool clips".

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I was lucky to find an OEM clip from someone parting out a K1100LT (he just cut up a piece of the side panel & sent it to me).

Question:
How does one get the old clip off cleanly?
I've never done any bodywork so any tips/instructions appreciated.

As questions are still out there, how about the part (98256) that Motobins in the UK sell?

Could possibly be used, with the aid of a dremel and JB weld or similar.
The downside is that it only hooks on the upper part on the rubber piece on the frame.

K1100RS battery cover repair:

Dremel cut-off wheel to remove old broken clip to flat.

Added a spacer of ABS plastic.
