To keep or remove the Crash Bars?
« on: June 22, 2012, 12:13:59 PM »
Okay I was looking at the photos of other bikes and see that alot of them have no (or removed) the Crash Bars. I have noted that the bars on my k100lt do not come out past the faring. (by the way the faring looks the did not help protect it anyways) I do like the look of no bars. I could remove them and put sliders on it I guess.

Any comments would be welcome.....

Thx.

Well, the term "crash bar" is not a very accurate descriptor of these bars.

For 1 thing they are rubber mounted, so in a real, moving, crash situation they are likely to break loose at the rubber mount.
BTDT. I was pulling in my drive way one day and clipped the fender of my trailer with one of my bar mounted hwy pegs, and broke the rubber mount on the bottom. On the bright side, it was better than having to replace a broken oil pan bottom.......... :2thumbup:

The real intent of the bars are to protect the engine covers(cam and crank) when the bike is dropped at a stand still.

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
