Low battery/no start
« on: May 24, 2012, 04:01:47 PM »
Here goes,,,,went to start K100 rs and barely got a grunt out of starter. Turned key off quickly and then no inst lights,,nothin. Hooked up battery tender and got red"\'hooked up wrong' light. It wasn't connected wrong. I then took battery cables off and was able to charge battery. Hooked cables back up and I was back where I started. No inst lights no start and same battery tender red light. Fried starter relay???? Fuse? Fossil

How old is your battery?  Take it to an auto parts store where they will load test it for free.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

The contacts in the starter relay "welded" together when you tried to start it with a low battery.  Fairly common thing to happen.  Try rapping on the right rear of the relay box with a crescent wrench or something to see if they'll come unstuck.

Same thing happened to me the other day. I had a low battery and couldn't get it started after I stopped to pick something up at the auto parts store. Got a jump at the store and rode home. BUT the odd thing on the ride home was that my headlight wasn't working and my turn signals (all 4) would all just light up for a second when I tried to signal. Got home turn the key to off and the starter was still cracking . . . it was apparently stuck on the 5 mile ride home and, when it is cranking the lights are wired to be off to conserve power. Started it up again immediately, turned it off, and the starter was unstuck. I have since replaced the battery (Odyssey PC680) and the bike is MUCH happier.

Raise the rear of the tank and block it up, snap the cover off the black box just ahead of the computer. The relay is at the back right corner of the box.(disconnect battery) I took mine out to free up the contacts. Good luck.
