rolling around kern county in search of the airport cafe... before 3pm that is...
worked the night shift last night... by the time we hauled the rig to the hotel and unloaded the motobrick and rolled it was 10:30am... tomorrow ca 58 to the coast... today the mountain roads of kern co...
we were gonna take cal-bod... but when we got to the exit we decided since we have been on cal-bod before so we would try the lions tale... breckenridge mountain road... which rolls above 7000 feet... and with 3 days of rain and snow this week we were not sure if we would make it over the hill... but what the hay...
bealville rd from the 58 and cal-bod...
breckenridge rd... what a contrast in geography... its the land of 4 legged hamburgers and 2 legged of gun toting protectionists...
this road is half goat and half rawhide ribbon... lotts o cow pies down low though...
lotts o tiny flowers everywhere...
towards the top the grade becomes quite steep with nertly switchbacks...
we had miles of tire tracking... thought we were gonna make it over the hill...
when the tire tracks go away... i go to investigate...
snow 3+ feet deep two corners away on the sunless north slope... o well...
back at the bottom...
we roll to the 178... running out of time...
we made it at 2:55... they were very accommodating to the late arrivals...
the kernville airport cafe... j o the swiss bacon burger...
m o the patty melt burger...
we took the old road down the hill... kern canyon rd...
orange blossoms... sweet...
there you go...
