Fuel Hose Specs
« on: January 29, 2012, 02:26:15 PM »
I have a 91 K100RS.  I pulled the gas tank off to gain access for some other work I am doing.  Thought it would be a good idea to replace the fuel supply hose while I have the tank off.  My question:  Can I get a piece of fuel hose from the local auto store, or is there something special about the BMW hose that warrants paying the big bucks for it?  Also, I notice that the hose clamp on the tank side of the nose is not a conventional screw type like the other end.  I would like to replace it with a regular screw type hose clamp.  Any problems with that?  Thanks.....

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

ok, thanks.  Anyone know a good source for the 13mm stainless hose clamps?  Can't seem to find them locally.

I am in the process of reassembly after installing the new fuel  hoses.  I have run into a slight glitch, which you think I would be able to figure out, but am having some difficulty.  I should have taken pictures when I disassembled.  My question is the proper location of the rubber heat shield that is inside, around the fuel pressure regulator.  I can't remember if it was located on the front side of the FPR, between the number 1 and 2 intakes, or on the rear side of the FPR, between number 2 and 3 intakes.  I think I may have pushed it too far forward in trying to make room, and disconnected the horizontal tube connection to the number 2 cylinder.
Attached is a picture taken from the right side of the bike.  Thanks

OK, I finally got this.  For anyone that has a K100RS and does this fuel hose replacement job, what I found was that using the traditional hose clamps on the fuel pressure regulator connections resulted in interference where the rubber heat shield fits around the hose which returns to the fuel tank.  The OEM clamps are pretty much smooth all the way around, except for the little crimp ear.  I ended up shaving a little bit off the id of the heat shield where the hose cutout is, and cut a bit off the end of the hose clamp screw so it didn't protrude so far out.  When I did this I was able to fit everything in ok....

Putting those things back in is about like folding a map just the way it was when you got it.
