did i damage
« on: October 23, 2020, 06:30:19 PM »
Hey kids,
Just went to start my '86 K100RS with a low battery, and it "fused".  Even when I let off the start button, it kept trying to turn the engine over.  I've removed the battery, which now appears dead.  Question:  Have I done any damage to the start button or starter itself?  I have a replacement battery on order.  Anything I should be aware of?
Cheers,
Ray

Lets just say, "join the club".... You're not the first and won't be the last. It's very common for a K bike to have the starter relay contacts stick closed when attempting to start the bike with a battery that is too low on charge.
More often than not, you can remove the relay, open it up and un-stick the contacts, dress them and salvage the relay. If not, you will need to replace it.
Some people have even just given the relay box a rap on the right rear corner(where the relay is located) from the outside and get the relay to release. Though I'd still want to open the relay and examine it.

Thanks Scott.  Stuck relay.  Um...where is the relay, and is it easily accessible?

Very easy to access.  Here is the technical thread about the K100 relays.

Located in the relay box, rear most right corner.
